Scott and Lyzz Wahlberg met and married in college at UW-Superior in Wisconsin. They both come from small Wisconsin towns and enjoy the simple life. Scott enlisted in the Army as a Counter Intelligence Agent in 1992 and the family moved all over, eventually ending their military career in Augusta, Georgia. While in Georgia, Lyzz started working at The Home Depot part time. This would lead to a 16 year career with the company, taking them to Minneapolis, MN where Scott would join Home Depot as well, and then to Duluth, MN where they would stay for the next 13 years.
Thru Home Depot, Scott and Lyzz learned the difference between customer service and building a relationship with your customer, holding yourself accountable so that others will follow example and giving back to your community. Both "Wahlbergs" planned and organized team events over the years focusing on helping Veterans. Several home remodels took place resulting in long lasting friendships and lifetime memories!
Once the children were out of high-school, it was time to think about what was next....? After several years of planning and searching, it was decided that a retail business in Southern California was in order and so they came to find Canyon Feed & Tack. They packed up, said goodbye to family and friends and moved to California in October of 2013 bringing with them their daughter Meghan. Their daughter Taylor was serving in the Military and upon finishing a deployment in Afghanistan she came to California to spend some time with family and working in the family business as well. Major, the family beagle, would become the proud store ambassador until his passing at 14 1/2 years old in 2018.
Scott is a college football enthusiast and spends Saturdays watching Michigan play on the Big 10 Network. Lyzz rides a 2015 Ultra Limited Low Harley touring bike and enjoys exploring the back windy roads through the canyons. The newest additions to the household (Stella & Buddy) spend their time divided between making mayhem and snoozing on the couch with dad!
The newest love we have found in life is a tiny little girl named Madison May who joined this earth on February 18th, 2018. Being grandparents from a distance is challenging so be forewarned you will see LOTS of pictures and hear stories about our little one!
Owning a small business in a small town is the most rewarding, challenging, frustrating and best accomplishment we have ever had the privilege of being a part of. It is 100% consuming and occupies most of our conversations and thoughts. We love being part of the community and the relationships we have made here! We share our family with you because they are the reason we are who we are, the reason we do what we do and they are the ones who support and love us regardless of our repetitive conversations about delivery trucks, hay prices, or missed family reunions because we were short staffed and chose to stay and work so that no one would have to worry about how to feed their horse at night. We love hearing about your family and seeing the pictures too!!
